Starting with the 7xxx series of Adaptec RAID controllers we’re forced to use the less than pleasant web interface in order to get any sort of GUI for management. Works perfectly fine however you might run into issues on windows server 2012 or windows 8.
After installing maxview you might not be able to log into the interface regardless of what settings you put in place. Even after following adaptec troubleshooting steps for login issues.
The problem as you may have noticed at this point is the service “maxView Storage Manager CIM Server” can not start, even though it is set to automatic at system boot.
The solution I have found for my windows server 2012 system is the “Windows SmartScreen” feature is blocking this service. I don’t want to deal with that crap so I swiftly disabled it, which caused everything to suddenly start working perfectly. Thanks, Microsoft!
To disable SmatScreen go to control panel and select Action Center:
Select Windows SmartScreen Settings from the side menu:
Disable that crap:
If you still have login issues make sure to check out the adaptec troubleshooting page, there are some limitations and other considerations that I won’t repeat in this article.
